DAY 1
DAY 1

Location 1: Jagannath Temple
One of the dhams of the famous Char Dham circuit, Jagannath Temple was built in the 12th century AD. A fine example of Oriya style of architecture, the temple is enclosed within two concentric walls, the Kuruma Bheda and the Meghnad Pachira. Another architectural feature of the temple is that it is constructed in such a way that no shadow of the temple falls on the ground during any time of the day. Inside the main sanctum of the temple, there's a carved wooden statue of Jagannath, flanking the idols of brother Balarama and sister Subhadra. It is suggested to dress modestly while visiting the temple.

Location 2: Gundicha Temple
Gundicha Temple is located about 3 km from Jagannath temple. It is known as the “birthplace” of Jagannath Swami as, on a special platform called the mahavedi, a celestial carpenter carved out the idols of the 3 deities, Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra. As the temple was constructed during the reign of King lndradyumna, it is named after King’s wife, Gundicha Maharani. He is claimed to have performed one thousand Ashvamedha Yajnas here. During the annual Ratha Yatra, Lord Jagannatha, Lord Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi, along with Sudarsana, leave from the main Jagannath temple shrine and reside at the Gundicha for 7 days. This is also known as the Gundicha Yatra and is regarded as the most auspicious occasion of the year. The Rath Yatra culminates at this temple which is surrounded by gardens. Since it is a religious place, it is suggested to dress modestly.

Location 3: Loknath Temple
The Lokanatha Temple has tremendous cultural and religious significance as it is believed to have been constructed by Lord Ram, when he stopped at Puri on his way to Lanka. The temple is dedicated to Shiva; the Shivling in the inner sanctum remains underwater for a large part of the year and is opened to devotees only around the Shivratri festival. The walls of the temple are adorned with the images of several Hindu deities like Shiva-Parvati, Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha, which are all placed inside small separate temples. On entering the premises one would come across a big pond (known as Parvati Sagara in the local dialect) where the visitors are supposed to wash their hands and feet before entering into the temple. Lord Lokanath is also regarded as the guardian deity of the Ratnabhandara, the treasure house of Sri Jagannatha Temple. The deity plays an active part in some famous festivals like Shivratri, Chandan-Yatra and Sital-Sasthi.

Location 4: Bedi Hanuman Temple
The temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman is also known as Daria Mahavir. It is claimed that it is the duty of Daria Mahavir to look after the sea, so that it does not cross the peripheral boundaries of Puri. When the Jagannath Temple was built, Varuna (God of the Sea) approached the temple to pay homage. As a repercussion of this, the sea water entered the city and caused great damage. People reported the incident to Lord Jagannath who got infuriated with Lord Hanuman for his negligence and tied him up. Since his hands and feet were tied with rope (bedi), he is known as 'Bedi Hanuman' or 'Chained Hanuman'. It is believed that since then, the sea has never entered the Puri city again. Since this is a religious place, it is suggested to dress modestly.

Location 5: Sonar Gouranga Temple
Sonar Gauranga is located in the District of Puri, Odisha, about 3 km from the holy temple of Lord Jagannath. It is primarily dedicated to Lord Gauranga, an incarnation of the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu. The welcomes people of all religion, casts and creeds. Since it is a religious place, devotees are suggested to dress modestly while visiting the temple.

DAY 2
DAY 2

Location 1: Ramachandi Temple
Ramachandi Temple stands on the convergence of River Kushabhadra with the Bay of Bengal around 7 km from Konark Sun Temple. It is a magnificent temple located along the beach of Ramachandi. According to popular belief, the Goddess of Ramachandi is known to fulfil the wishes of her devotees. Several myths and legends are associated with the temple and the goddess is also claimed to bless childless women with a child. Since it is a religious place, it is suggested to dress modestly.

Location 2: Chandrabhaga Beach
Chandrabagha Beach, located close to the Sun Temple of Konark, is known for its marvellous sand art and cleanliness. Several myths and legends are associated with this place, and a week-long Chandrabagha Mela is organized here every year to honor the Sun God. In addition, every year during December to January, the Tourism Department of the Odisha Government hosts an annual International Sand Art Festival, coinciding with the popular Konark Dance Festival at the World Heritage SiTE. Visitors can enjoy peaceful strolls on the clean sandy beach, and also buy some ethnic sea-shell handicrafts and other souvenirs from the local vendors here.

Location 3: Sun Temple
Dating back to the 13th century and located on the shores of Bay of Bengal, the Sun Temple features beautiful Kalinga architecture. The temple represents the sun god Surya's chariot with decorated 24 wheels and led by six horses. As per one of the many stories surrounding this marvel, the temple was built by Samba, one of the sons of Lord Krishna, in gratitude to Surya (Sun) for his kindness. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best examples of Oriya architecture, the temple was designed in such a way that the sun rays touch the center of the temple each morning during sunrise. The temple looks spectacular, especially during the light and sound show. It is suggested to dress modestly while visiting the temple.
